Becoming an Amateur Radio Operator is easier than you might think. All that is needed is to study for and pass a 35 question exam by getting at least 28 questions correct. Below is an outline of how to go about getting licensed. It is certainly not the only method, or probably even the best method, but it provides an unintimidating way of passing the exam and getting your license.
Study:
Familiarize yourself with the question pool by clicking here. The question pool contains 412 questions and their correct answers. The Volunteer Examiners conducting your Exam will draw 35 questions from this pool, so while it's not "open book" you can still familiarize yourself with them before you take the test.

Take the Exam:
When you're ready, locate an ARRL Licensing Exam near you. They are held year-round and at locations all over Bay-Lakes Council territory. Find an Exam by clicking HERE.
*** Be very mindful of the forms of identification you will need to bring, and also be sure to register for your FRN number on the FCC website. There are instructions on the link above. You will likely be charged $15 to the Volunteer Examiner team for taking the Exam. If you fail, you can re-take a slightly different Exam right there for an additional fee. Each Exam will have the contact information for a Team Lead. You can direct any specific questions to that person.
